Access to Hospitality and Apprenticeships
Through AHA apprenticeships, the British Council increases employment opportunities for the graduates of the vocational education sector in Azerbaijan.

The British Council, in partnership with the Azerbaijan State Vocational Education Agency, key hospitality industry partners and People1st UK continue the successful Access to Hospitality and Apprenticeship Scheme programme.

Main objectives of the programme:

  • To increase employment opportunities for the graduates of the vocational education sector by developing their skills and knowledge.
  • To involve employers to the educational process through the student apprenticeship schemes.
  • To increase the role of the vocational education in the hospitality sector.

Activities in 2018-19

In 2018-19 academic year the programme will be implemented in Baku, as well as in the other regions of Azerbaijan (Gabala, Ganja, Qusar and Ismayilli) for all three specialties (chef, hotel concierge, housekeeping attendant). The programme is a unique opportunity for students interested in gaining experience in the area of hospitality. The programme does not only equip students with required skills but also provides practical work experience opportunities at the hotels in Baku and in the regions.

Activities in 2017-18

AHA programme has been successfully implemented in the 2017-18 at the Baku State Vocational Education Centre on Tourism and Social Services, Baku State Vocational Education Centre on Public Food and Beverage, Ganja State Vocational Education Centre on Trade and Service  and Gabala State Vocational Education Centre.

The programme covered three specialties: chef, hotel concierge, and housekeeping attendant. 60% per cent of all programme participants received permanent employment offers from the hotels/organisations they interned at.
