British Council Azerbaijan in partnership with the Azerbaijan State Vocational Education Agency, tourism industry and People1st UK continue the implementation of the Access to Hospitality and Apprenticeship Scheme programme.
Main objectives of the programme:
- To increase employment opportunities for the graduates of the vocational education sector by developing their skills and knowledge.
- To involve employers to the educational process through the student apprenticeship schemes.
- To increase the role of the vocational education in the hospitality sector.
AHA 2016/2017 Pilot Programme Results
Access to Hospitality and Apprenticeship Scheme pilot programme has been successfully implemented in the 2016 - 2017 academic year at the Baku State Vocational Education Centre on Tourism and Social Services. The programme covered three specialties: chef, hotel concierge, and housekeeping attendant.
About 50 per cent of programme participants received job offers from the hotels where they interned at.

Hilton Hotel, Fairmont Hotel, Absheron Hotel Group, JW Marriott Absheron Baku Hotel, Four Seasons Hotel, Intourist Hotel, Boulevard Hotel, Gilan Hospitality Group, Pullman Hotel, QafqaZ Baku City Hotel, Hyatt Regency Baku, Holiday Inn Baku Hotel.
During 2017 - 2018 academic year the programme will be implemented in Baku, as well as in the other regions of Azerbaijan (Gabala, Ganja) for all three specialties (chef, hotel concierge, housekeeping attendant).
The teachers of the specialty programmes will participate in teacher training sessions to be conducted by People1st UK in September 2017.
The programme will be a unique opportunity for students interested in gaining experience in the area of hospitality. The programme will not only equip students with required skills but will also provide practical work experience opportunities at the hotels in Baku and in the regions.
